THE ART OF ANATOMY

Proportions in Pause, Symmetry in Motion:
A Sensorial Journey through Art and Science

Originating from the Getty Research Institute, LA, the temporary exhibition spotlights the long-standing relationship between Art and Science. Our Team, together with our build partner, PICO, worked closely alongside the ArtScience Museum curators in delivering a cross-cultural visitor journey. Western anatomical artworks and medical archives are exhibited with Eastern artefacts, such as TCM charts and apparatuses. Accordingly, creating a unique walk-through across beliefs.

In respecting the scientific depth of content, we introduced an overall sequence with moments of pause, awe, respect and contemplation while perusing and discovering more than 160 artefacts and artworks – consisting of life-size anatomical illustrations, medical journals, books, historical records, and other contemporary artworks from around the world, including Southeast Asian names. Rhythms between elements unfurl meditative qualities, inviting contemplation that echoes the keen, ongoing pursuit of a subject that has been a source of curiosity since the 16th century.

Furthermore, echoing the natural symmetry of human anatomy, we focused on spatial balance within spaces along the visitor experience. Doing so contributed to the order and structure of the well-balanced composition of the nine galleries. Following a similar framework, the neat proportions established by our team led the design of showcases and plinths. Visitors thus could move effortlessly, guided by carefully calibrated spatial cues.
