Further emphasis on organizing this year’s festival thematically, 4 illustrations depicting Marina barrage, HDB housing, Pearl Bank Apartments, Lor Halus Bridge were created to visually anchor the themes to an environment that is familiar to everyone, Singaporeans and tourists, Architects and laymen.

Archifest is an annual festival for the city to celebrate architecture and the built environment. ‘Design for Life’ is a theme that broadly encompasses the Architect’s vision to respond to the true needs of humanity. It is necessary for design to give back to the community and enrich human life as a whole. The main theme is elaborated in 3 sub-themes: Design for People, Design for Time and Design for Environment.

Working closely to the theme ‘design for life’, the aim of the campaign visuals was to create a visual identity that is fresh from the visual landscape of architectural festivals, emphasising the spirit of the festival that is to celebrate life. Considerate balance between vivid and retro colours was used to create this vibrant festival image. This visual identity was then applied to many different elements, including the development of the official website for the festival.

The idea of Microsoft paint was explored as a process that graphically represented an accessible design. This process led to the retro-futuristic stylistic approach of pixel art utilized in the creation of a familiar illustrative style. Typographical work through the form of a logotype played a supporting voice in homogenizing the visual identity of the festival.
