‘120 YEARS OF CINEMA’ is much more than an exhibition about a film company: it’s about History, discipline and people!

Gaumont, 120 years old!

While many other companies born in the 19th Century represent memories from the past, Gaumont is nowadays more vibrant than ever!
The famous French Film company celebrates today 120 years of existence, inventions, and successes in the industrial, commercial and artistic fields.
This free exhibition brings the public from all walks through a memorable journey to discover the History of Cinema with loans from the Gaumont Museum, film excerpts and posters.

The Asian traveling show which premieres in 2016 in Singapore showcases a part of the great exhibition held in Paris in 2015. Curated by Dominique Païni, it was on display at the ‘CENTQUATRE’, a creative and popular space open to all artistic disciplines.

In the same spirit and with the aim for reaching out as many as possible, French Embassies in Asia, with the valued support of Gaumont, decided to reinterpret and circulate this exhibition in ten countries over the region: sharing with the audiences 120 years of tremendous artistic creativity and above all a unique world heritage in the 7th Art.

‘120 YEARS OF CINEMA’ is much more than an exhibition about a film company.
It is about History! Gaumont has existed ever since the advent of cinema.

It is about a diverse range of disciplines! For the past 120 years, the cinematographic company has represented and gathered all the professions of this field, including production, screening and distribution.

It is about people! Behind the Gaumont name, famous directors made movies into works of art such as Louis Feuillade, Jean Vigo, Federico Fellini, Ingmar Bergman, Andrzej Wajda, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Maurice Pialat, Jean-Luc Godard, Luc Besson, Mathieu Kassovitz, and Jean-Jacques Beineix.

‘120 YEARS OF CINEMA’ is first and foremost an exhibition about Cinema itself, filled with fabulous encounters between actors and directors, movies and audiences, History and images.

Restored heritage films and Contemporary films which have never been screened before in Singapore, are now presented at Alliance Française, The Projector and at the National Design Centre Singapore. Please follow the map and timetable to find out more.

Thanks to the French Embassies and Institut Français, contents of this exhibition will be travelling and showcased in Myanmar, Cambodia, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and much more!
