Biophilic cities is one that understands these green interventions

and connections with nature as part of uplifting and enhancing the quality of life for everyone.

The China International Import Expo (CIIE) is a trade fair held in autumn annually since 2018 in Shanghai, China. It is the world’s first import-themed national-level expo. It will feature exhibitions of multiple countries and businesses and the Hongqiao International Economic and Trade Forum.

The Singapore Pavilion for CIIE showcases Singapore’s sustainable vision of becoming a City in Nature. Singapore continues to build upon the notion of biophilic design into our urban fabric. Coexisting and integrating natural elements such as vegetation, flowing water, and sunlight with the built environment.

The Singapore pavilion consists of 3 main narratives: trade-in services (Downtown), food & agriculture (Marketplace), and lifestyle (Jewel). Each of these narratives has been rebranded as such that they would be strongly resonated with the Singapore Brand story. The exhibition approach focuses on having 3 different systems for different booths.

In trade-in services (Downtown), the pavilion is designed to create masses of different heights in creating a dynamic rhythm— resembling the city skyline of Singapore.

In food & agriculture (Marketplace), the pavilion is focused on creating pockets of intimate spaces. Much like the hawker centers of Singapore, each of the booths are composed in a radial fashion and closely knitted to each other.

In lifestyle (Jewel), the pavilion reflects the idea of luxury and sophistication of Singapore. The use of darker materials with cables reflects the intricacy of details for the different booths.

All in all the exhibition will be a powerful testament to our belief in the benefits of connection and integration in bringing the best of each other.
