Well-being for All
The practice’s first research publication is designed to prioritise accessibility beyond the researched content. Each hard copy is sized at A5, with paper grammage and resilient substrate suitable for everyday reading on commutes and ink or ballpoint notes. Every page of the 345-page book is meticulously laid and positioned to manage more than 100 diagrams, photographs and graphics, with the supporting text. In cohesively communicating content diversity, a clean and flexible grid system is selected for unrestricted positioning and ease of content management. This further allows for the proper and optimal organisation of each inch of the book, including the book cover.
Rather than opting for colour vibrancy in full pages, the research book reflects the spirit of the human-centric approach by injecting moments of life in parts. Presented materials – pictures, diagrams and illustrations – are either personally photographed and created by the Team or graciously permitted by members of the public. Only key pages are splashed with single colours to mark the beginning of a chapter, or at the edge, indicative of vital subcategories.
A primary consideration of the visibility of photographs, diagrams and illustrations, is addressed by intentional placement away from the book spine. Every documentation is then respectfully colour-calibrated to maintain printing efficiency in adherence to the ideology of “Planet”.
In walking the talk, Well-being for All: A Holistic Framework for Tropical Cities, is meaningfully thought out to embody its advocacy of People-Planet-Prosperity.
